TESTED | DEEP CYCLE CENTURY BATTERY | Tested

If you camp when you drive then you need a power source. Check out our Century N70T Battery test, what we liked and what we didn't like.

THE HOLIDAYS ARE upon us, and now that most are out of lockdown that means camping trips galore. I’ve never been more excited to go without a shower or flushing toilet for a week! To get us through a week with some power we use a deep cycle battery. Our Century N70T Battery test proved a good thing.

My power source when I camp now is the Century Deep-Cycle battery. I flicked my generator because I didn’t need that much power and the dull hum kinda ruined the serenity, not to mention the need to keep filling it up with fuel.

While the Century can easily run my Waeco fridge and charge my phone for about two days before needing a top up off the cranking battery of my car or solar panel, I wanted to give it a bigger challenge. So, while away for the October long weekend I hooked it up to a projector and Apple TV device and streamed the NRL Grand Final to it from my phone. It worked flawlessly and hardly dropped any charge!

WE RATE

SIZE Unlike a generator, the Century Deep-Cycle batter is more compact. Sure, it’s heavy (about 24kg) but so is a generator. It easily fits in the back of smaller tubs like the RZR Trail S 1000.

SOUND It doesn’t take a genius to work out the deep-cycle battery makes absolutely no noise. Perfect for camping.

POWER I was amazed how many devices I could plug into it at once (see above) and how long it lasted. The only reason I would plug it in to 240 volts every two days was because I couldn’t tell how much juice it had left and I didn’t want to run it dry. It pumps out 12 Watts at 102 amp/hours.

PRICE  This is much cheaper than a generator or any other power source.

WE DON’T RATE

WEIGHT While the Century N70T Battery is smaller than a generator, it is still heavy and when trying to pull it awkwardly to of the ute it is a little cumbersome.

CHARGING The Century battery has not collapsed or started to drop cells. It has been flawless and provides days of camping power but imagine how cool it would be if a battery could self-charge vie some solar on the battery box or you could zap it with a full charge in like 30sec. That would be what I’d love to see next.

VERDICT

Deep-cycle batteries are a much better way to bring power to your campsite providing you don’t need too much juice. Our Century N70T Battery test kept our phones and camera gear charged, and even allowed us to watch the NRL on a projector without needing to be plugged in for two days! Now I don’t go anywhere without it.
