The CAN-AM Defender DPS features an HD7 engine with a displacement of 650cc, capable of delivering 52 horsepower and 42 lb-ft of torque. This engine employs the Rotax® ACE (Advanced Combustion Efficiency) technology and is liquid-cooled for enhanced performance. The fuel delivery system utilizes Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC™) with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI), optimizing fuel delivery and efficiency.

The transmission system includes a pDrive primary Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that features engine braking and Electronic Drive Belt Protection with multiple operational modes (L/H/N/R/P). It supports a drive train configuration that allows users to select between Turf Mode, 2WD, and 4WD, with the Visco-Lok† QE auto-locking front differential enhancing traction control.

Additional driving assistance is provided by the Electronic Hill Descent Control system which offers ECO™, ECO™ Off, and Work modes to suit different driving conditions. Dynamic Power Steering (DPS™) further aids in maneuverability and handling.

The suspension setup consists of a Double A-arm front suspension with 10 inches (25.4 cm) of travel and twin tube gas-charged shocks, paired with a Torsional Trailing Arm (TTA) rear suspension also offering 10 inches of travel and external sway bar. This setup is designed to provide a stable and comfortable ride over various terrains.

For tires, the vehicle is equipped with XPS Trail Force measuring 27 x 9 x 14 inches at the front and 27 x 11 x 14 inches at the rear, mounted on 14-inch cast-aluminum wheels. The braking system includes dual 220 mm disc brakes with hydraulic twin-piston calipers at both the front and rear, ensuring effective stopping power.

The vehicle dimensions are 121 x 62 x 76 inches (307.1 x 157.5 x 193 cm), with a wheelbase of 83 inches (211.5 cm) and a ground clearance of 11 inches (28 cm). It features a profiled cage that is ROPS approved, providing structural safety. The dry weight of the vehicle is 1,471 lb (667 kg).

Cargo management is robust, with a cargo box measuring 38 x 54.5 x 12 inches (96.5 x 138.4 x 30.5 cm) and a capacity of 1,000 lb (454 kg). The tailgate supports up to 250 lb (113.4 kg), and the total storage capacity reaches 10.4 gallons (39.5 L). It boasts a towing capacity of 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) and a payload capacity of 1,500 lb (680 kg).

Fuel capacity is substantial at 10.6 gallons (40 L), supporting extended use before refueling. The vehicle can accommodate up to three persons.

The driver’s console includes a 4.5-inch wide digital display, with additional features such as a 12 V battery, a 650 W magneto for electrical needs, and a DC outlet (10-A) for powering accessories. Lighting includes a 140 W LED for the front and tail lights, enhancing visibility.

The seating is arranged with a VERSA-PRO bench seat that includes passenger seats that can flip up, complete with underside hooks for additional utility. Steering is facilitated by an adjustable tilt steering wheel, and the vehicle is equipped with a 2-inch hitch receiver for towing.
