2022 CAN-AM DEFENDER | ALL-NEW ENGINE OPTIONS | New model showroom | Vehicles

Can-Am has introduced two new Rotax engines to its lineup – the HD7/700 ACE and the HD9, replacing the HD5, HD8, and 800

Can-Am have revealed a bunch of new engines to power their Defender work range. The 2022 Can-Am Defender will now come with a HD7 engine that pumps out 52hp, the HD9 engine with 65hp. The trusty HD10 will remain which has been around for a while with 82hp. We loved the HD10 motor in the 2021 Can-AM Defender DPS PRO when we tested it so we’re hoping these new motors are just as good.

The Details

Can-Am are hoping the Rotax HD7 engine will become the new ruler of the lower-HP class. It is available in the Can-Am Defender, where it replaces the HD5 with 37% more power, and with a sportier calibration. It will power the new Commander 700, and the Maverick Trail 700 also. The new engine is meant to be quieter, vibrate, and have a cooler environment for passengers resulting in a more comfortable ride.

And the Rotax HD9 option replaces the HD8 in the Can-Am Defender lineup. It is a larger, more powerful engine that delivers 30%1 more horsepower than its predecessor. It promises the same dependability, with even more workability by way of class-leading power and low-end torque.

“With the addition of the HD7 and HD9 engine options to the already existing HD10, Can-Am is class leading in power. It is by far the best option to accomplish the task at hand, whether that’s work or play,” said Christian St-Onge Director Global Product Strategy Can-Am Off-Road Vehicles. “Regardless of your vehicle choice, this lineup is built to perform.”

On top of the engine upgrades, Can-Am is fine-tuning its Defender line-up with the expansion of the ABS on some HD9 and HD10 models. Those models benefit therefore from the innovative Brake and Traction Control System that offers maximum controllability in the toughest riding conditions. Those models fitted with ABS are no more limited to 60km/h.
