GREG PETERSON’S SXS ADVENTURE ROARs INTO LIFE

The first ever SXS Adventure went off without a hitch at Bike Territory, Narrabri, NSW.

As we’ve covered in previous articles, the Australia Off-Road Vehicle Association (AORVA) are on a mission to bring off-road vehicles into mainstream weekend activities for the Australian public. One of the ways they are doing this is by supporting recreational riding events. Greg Peterson (Grassroots hard Enduro promoter) and his crew put their hand up to run their first ride-weekend at Bike Territory near Narrabri, NSW, as part of the SXS Adventure series. We caught up with Greg for a brief chat about the event and what off-road vehicle enthusiasts can expect moving forward.

So Greg, how was your first running of an SXS Adventures weekend?

I think the weekend went really well. The endless tracks at Bike Territory are fantastic on such a scenic property. We were also blessed with perfect weather for the weekend. We applied a lead rider to introduce the side-by-side participants to a range of great rides throughout the weekend, whilst the opportunity for people to do their own thing and freeride throughout the property was also available. Once the riding was done everyone enjoyed getting around the fire for a big barbecue on Saturday night, before the next morning which was followed up with bacon and eggs for breakfast and then back out there for more side-by-side action.

Sounds like a great weekend out and about, what can future participants look forward to as you build on this solid initiative you’ve got going with your industry partners through AORVA?

We’ve got a couple of ideas moving forward. We would love for a full experience that is easy and accessible for participants over the whole weekend, so that means providing full catering, showers and toilets for people that show up for the ride. More on the amenities side, I’d be keen to have an entertainer or performer there for more off-track activities like a big Saturday night atmosphere. Most notably though the next two properties we operate on, I have exclusive access to them. Bike Territory is an amazing property with some great tracks and scenery but the wider public can access this property any time. For our next couple of events we will be expanding to run them on exclusive-access properties to maximise the adventure and create a unique atmosphere of SXS Adventure!
