BLURTON LEADS CAN-AM 1-2 AT BAJA 1000 | News
Phil Blurton and Kaden Wells deliver a dominant class sweep for Can-Am at the brutal 2025 Baja 1000, conquering mud, rain, and 854 miles of punishing terrain.
Can-Am racer Phil Blurton returned to the top step at the 58th running of the SCORE International Baja 1000, putting his Can-Am Maverick R on the Pro UTV Forced Induction class podium. Fellow Can-Am driver Kaden Wells crossed the line shortly after, securing a strong second place in class*.
The 2025 Baja 1000 covered 854 miles, beginning and ending in Ensenada and traversing the deserts, beaches, and mountains of the Baja Peninsula. Famous for its brutal and technical terrain, this year’s course lived up to its reputation. Despite punishing conditions and unpredictable weather, Blurton and Wells powered through in their Maverick Rs, proving the capability and durability of the platform.
Blurton and co-driver Jeff Gallegos began the race in Ensenada before handing the car to teammate Vito Ranuio, who drove it to the finish. The team completed the course in 20 hours and 29 minutes, taking the class win and finishing sixth overall among UTVs. Wells and co-driver Emma Cornwell secured second place in 21 hours and 7 minutes.
“Baja 1000 is always fun, and just finishing is an accomplishment, but crossing the line first is even better,” Blurton said. “We had a solid race with a few mechanical hiccups that slowed us briefly, but the crew handled everything quickly. Baja is always rough and technical, but that’s what keeps us coming back. I love the challenge. Big thanks to Can-Am and all my sponsors for the support.”
“We gave it everything, it was a good run, but it’s Baja,” Ranuio added. “This was the first time we’ve driven in the rain during a Baja race, and the mud was an experience on its own. The last 40 miles were especially tough as the rain picked up.”
Next, Can-Am Factory Racers will head to the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia, beginning January 3rd, 2026.
